Buying used focusing screens

Several times I have purchased used non-standard accessory SLR focusing screens.
Often rather than being the specialized type as marked on the box it turned out to be the stock screen.

Obviously the original owner stored the original screen there for safekeeping.
But shouldn't the dealer check before selling?

Yeah you would think! Seller probably switched the screens a few decades ago and forgot which was which?

Or perhaps passed away and the person cleaning out the closet didn't know what was correct? Always worth asking rather than jumping to a negative conclusion.

We never hear a peep from the guy that gets a bare bones camera with "extras' though do we?

My mislabeled screens were all bought from dealers, who should know better...
