Alternative Pentax Cable Switch?

The Pentax Cable Switch CS-205 is short and expensive. Has anyone found a good alternative for the K10? I have the wireless remote and find its works about 70% of the time. I was in my local camera shop and we put a Canon on a K20 and it worked fine. The Canon was not much longer than the Pentax.

Any Suggestions on a non-Pentax cable remote?

You could try building your own. I'm not good with electronics but I put one together for about $6 (used an old peice of cable and a discarded small torch body along with parts from an electronics shop)

I bought this cable which is short but inexpensive. It works 100% of the time, including locking for long exposures.
Shutter Release for Pentax CS-205 K200D K20D K10D istD - eBay (item 360076755383 end time Sep-03-08 14:01:06 PDT)

The Chinese wireless remote I have also works for me, but not for long exposures.

I think if you want a really long one, this one would work :
5M Remote Shutter for Pentax MZ-L *ist K10D 110D CS-205 - eBay (item 260273034033 end time Aug-16-08 09:59:53 PDT)

or this one

I use the Canon remote, but if you want it longer, do what I did... I bought a long extension cord (though the jack size was bigger), got a couple of adapters to make the small jacks fit, voila. A 15ft. cable remote that can be converted back to 1 ft.!

I think I will try your first suggestion. US shipper, 36 inches long.

Thanks for the input

I just ordered me one from Dealtime for $5.63 and free shipping. I'll let you'all know how good it is when it arrives, at least the cable is twice as long as the $29.00 Pentax model.

I thought of building my own, because I usually enjoy those kinds of projects, but there are so many nice products from China out there that do the job--and offer RC or IR control to boot--that it just wasn't worth it. I ended up getting the Twin-1 for about $25. It is an excellent IR remote as well.

I just bought a Canon RS-60E3 for my K-5, and it works.
The price is only a quarter of CS-205.
Thanks for the information.
