I want to make some long exposures and looked for a cable release in internet. Just found some cheap stuff in ebay, but I do not know if they are universal. It looks pretty much like cable release 50, which is mentioned in the manual.
Greetings,
Kiril

Unlike electronic shutter releases, the mechanical ones were universal.

With, of course, the caveat that for use on early Nikon (sorry !) film bodies an adaptor was required, as it was the surround which was threaded, internally, not the shutter release button itself.

Well, you can't quite blame Nikon for the external collared cable release.

Leica launched that one for their early 35mm rangefinders, and Nikon followed suit in the 1940s on their rangefinders. Granted it was a stronger design than the little weenie tapered thread cable releases that Compur and others used on their leaf shutters back in the day - but the more fragile design became the standard. Nikon phased out the collar style with the arrival of the F3 in 1980.

The fussy tapered release socket still lives on in cameras like the Fuji mirrorless, and the Nikon Df!
