D-FA* 70-200 and Lee Adaptors

My 77mm Lee adaptor ring doesn't fit the front of the D-FA* 70-200 - the lens barrel housing is too thick to fit in the groove allowed for it. Is this a problem common to other systems, is it just that my 77mm Lee adaptor is 20+ years old, and newer ones can cope?

Thanks for your answers

My 77mm filters fit my DFA*70-200 just fine. That's three polarisers (Heliopan, Hoya and Kenko - don't ask) and a 10 stopper ND. Might you have stripped a thread?

Hi Sandy- it's not the filters - I've got a 77mm B+W polariser that fits no problem, it's the Lee adaptor ring for the Lee system 100 filter holder - there is a groove between the thread and the part that the filter holder mounts on that doesn't appear to be wide enough to accept the front of the lens barrel

hi ffking,

I have the old Lee system -- I used to use it with my large format lenses and 67 lenses. I just checked and it screws on to the dfa 70-200 without a problem. I do not see the groove you are talking about -- it screws right on to the lens.

OK - I've just inspected closer, and I have the 77mm WA version (left over from 67 also ) - definitely doesn't work - but then again, 70-200 isn't WA - I suppose I just assumed other factors would be the same as it works on the FA* 400mm f/5.6, and that isn't especially wide either
