Pentaxians beware: Just yesterday I had a spare third-party Watson Li-ion battery die. It's just past warranty and won't take a charge. I've tried both the OEM and Watson chargers. The OEM LED has a quick flashing sequence. The Watson charger just indicates zero voltage, zero capacity and nothing happens.

One of my students says it's a defective safety chip that is suppose to prevent the battery from overcharging that is preventing it from charging at all. Anyone encounter this and found a fix, please let me know. I have plenty of spares, and the Watson was cheap, but now I'm feeling like never getting another Watson branded third-party.

Wow I can't believe they're selling used batteries...

I've had an initially defective battery behave as you describe, as well as an older Pentax OEM battery. The third-party batteries are sufficiently inexpensive that I would expect an occasionally bad one. I've had mostly good luck with them, although two (of six or so) have failed to hold a charge after about 3yrs.
