I never came in those situations that I needed an extra battery, but for my next vacation I intend to shoot a lot of timelapse. Also I will be on the road with only my car, so very few occasions to reload the batteries.
If the results are satisfying, I will buy some extra original batteries, but for now I am looking for a cheap alternative.

By the way, the original D-LI90 says: Made in China.

@ Danielblues and Krazny: I heard about Patona, If I remember well, I once ordered something from them. Thanks for the link.

You can charge the batteries while you drive with either a power inverter doohicky that plugs into your cigarette lighter and has an AC out (like this), or a charger that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter. (I've used neither of these specific products, they're just examples!)

I have a third-party charger for the batteries in my K10D and Samsung GX20 that came with a cigarette lighter plug but I've never tried to use it that way.

I have purchased Wasabi batteries and some other cheaper batteries and overall I was pretty dissatisfied with them. I do think that in the beginning they were pretty close to the OEM batteries, but certainly by 12 months there was a significant difference in their ability to hold a charge.

For me, personally, I would stick with the OEM batteries as they just seem to hold up longer in the long run.

My guess is that, yes, they are made by the same factories as make these other batteries, but that batteries that are made to Pentax's specifications have a higher level of quality control on them and fewer duds are released on the unsuspecting public.

Not bad for that price. But not as good as original. Just good enough for that extra power when needed.

I just bought some crap batteries :P
2800mAh some unknown "Bonacell" brand. I actually ordered 1250mAh batteries.
I did a quick test on my K3.
One lasts for 350 shots - 30 sec shots in interval shooting. I'll test the original Pentax battery tomorrow. My gut tells me I'll get twice as much.
The other lasted for 221 shots while doing product macro photography, live view was on basically for over an hour.

The original Pentax battery did 496 shots.
So at 350shots per battery the cheap alternative batteries are actually about 1860*350/496 =~1312mAh.

Have purchased aftermarket batteries for k30, k1, mx1, Ricoh gr, Nikon, Sony...all from Amazon. Ordered them with charger. Just read the reviews on Amazon and you can sort out which ones are preferable. You may also find some have higher mah than others. Never had a problem with any of them. Only difference was on some the chip on the battery did not allow the camera to read the battery charge properly. Difference in price from original- huge.
