Black Rapid straps have a snap-in quick-release buckle, which I am worried could be a potential failure point as I cannot judge from the pics and vids whether they are metal or plastic.
The carabiner is metal, and has a screw-down collar which prevents accidental opening. Although I do back it up as described above, I have never had it fail. It's more likely (but still rare) that the tripod thread loosens - when I'm on the move I intermittently check it's still tight.

I also have the PD sling, It works brilliantly with the 645Z using both tripod threeads but I can't get it to sit comfortably with the K-1 and a big lens. It's fine (great even) with the KP and a limited, on which I use both strap lugs rather than the tripod thread.

It's not the Black Rapid carabiner I'm worried about; it's the quick-release buckle on the cross-body strap.

Never had an issue in two years dangling my DFA 150-450 from it.

Definitely - the system is very versatile and there are even Pentax LX connectors. As result of following the links you posted I started to consider purchase of Optech quick release plate

@pathdoc, Like @monochrome described, I have a plate on the tripod foot and a plate on my camera. I attach one end of my slide to the tripod foot and then attach the other to the camera. Ends up sitting comfortably on my side.

I've also used this one for years. No deterioration of any parts so far, used with both my Bigma and 70-200.

LAte to the show, but here goes:

The two best modular products are from Peak Design and Op/Tech. Having used both extensively, I favour Peak Design. Attach the strap to the camera and lens and your kit will be secure and balanced.

I love my K-1 and I love my new zoom, but the cross-body strap I'm currently using (which is good enough for my very light and compact film bodies, thank you Asahi Opt. Co) has some plastic parts, and I fear the day when one of them will crack and send the whole kit and caboodle crashing onto a hard surface. I don't trust it to take the whole weight for prolonged periods and am always keeping at least one hand on the gear.

Can someone recommend me a good one that I can trust nearly $6000 CDN worth of gear with?
I use a Black Rapid Curve for my rig, K3II with macro and ring flash or DA300. Comfortable and secure. I'm also using a Black Rapid two-camera sling, which is comfortable enough.
