Replacement for silicone eyepiece on O-ME53?

The silicone has torn on my magnifying eyepiece. Im not complaining. It went through a K20D, K-5, and is now on my K-3. Does anyone know how I can get a replacement for that rather than buying a whole new unit?

Interested myself. Same problem. I've been thinking a vinyl repair kit may work.

The problem is silicone rubbers are pretty much inert to most solvents. Xylene or toluene will dissolve silicone. Actually they degrade the material more than dissolve it so you can't really bond the dissolved surfaces. The other problem with these solvents is that they will react strongly to many common resins (plastics) so it's best not to allow them to get in contact with any other parts.

You might try some RTV silicone adhesive/caulk but in my experience even silicone adhesives won't bond strongly to cured silicone.

I slightly tore the eyecup on my K10D and balked at the $30 price tag of NOS replacement. Now I can't even find those but the are plenty of 3rd party Chinese knock-offs for $5-6 USD. The rubber will probably smell like the inside of a tire warehouse for the rest of my life.

Mine is missing a piece, so repair is not an option.

Depending if you care much about the appearance, you can trim slivers of silicon from another item and splice it in. Sil-poxy works well as an adhesive.

Never heard of Sil-poxy before. Appears to be made to bond silicone to silicone. Thanks for the heads-up. Not the most inexpensive stuff in the world though: $22 USD for a 0.5 oz tube:

True that, but cheaper than a new eyepiece, if that's the only other option... Actually, knowing Pentax accessory pricing it's probably cheaper than a new rubber piece, if it were available!

But you never know, you might need to glue silicon again and get some more use out of it. Actually scrap that, it'll lie in your 'misc' drawer until it dies.

Mine has a split in it and that's all. No missing bits. So silpoxy may be perfect but I'd love to have some backing material too.

These two places have the same thing for $12.20:
Buy Sil-Poxy Silicone Adhesive from Reynolds Advanced Materials
Douglas and Sturgess: Smooth-On Sil-Poxy Silicone Adhesive, 1/2 oz tube
