I use the fountain pen equivalent of this from Lamy, though I detested the supplied scratchy ExtraFine nib and replaced it with a custom 16K red gold 1.1mm oblique cut nib. I use Noodlers inks, at present I have their vibrant Navajo turquoise ink in my pen.

I have that same fountain pen, and yes - the extra fine nib it came with was atrocious. I replaced it with another Lamy nib - I think it was "Fine" or possibly "Medium" (though I'm pretty sure it was the former), and it was quite nice after that. But I haven't used a fountain pen in the last ten years. I used to use a Parker Duofold which was lovely, if a little "flashy"... I still have it somewhere, I'm sure...

I refuse to carry pens or pencils in my pockets. This comes from an unfortunate experience in my youth where a freshly sharpened pencil which I stowed in my pocket, the pointed end of which got uncomfortably close to private property.

I also use a Faber Castell E-motion 1.2mm mechanical pencil with Ebony wood grip and polished chrome fittings.

For more formal occasions I use a carbon fiber and silver fountain pen from Porsche design.

Finding good inks here can be a challenge. And, your mention of the Faber Castell pencil means that I must remark that I use mine every day. Although, mine's the common ol' blue version.

It certainly is, my solution was to buy a set of CMYK inks* [ or the manufacturers closest approximation] and put them in dropper bottles so I can create any colour I desire. Though there are specialist hues [ Noodlers Apache Sunset** is particularly nice] that I work with that I use quite a bit so I buy a bottle of it rather than mix it myself.


* For noodlers inks the closest inks to CMYK is Navajo turquoise, Shias rose, Noodlers yellow, and Noodlers forgery resistant Bulletproof black.

I didn't read the full quotation so missed that. What grinds my gears though is when people use "hoopy" as an adjective!

I am a retired LEO and used those Fisher Space Pens in my work. I could write tickets in the rain or fill out other paperwork that got wet (I was motor patrol most of the time). For backup I kept pencils handy, yes I actually filled out a ticket using a pencil if I didn't have my space pen.

Motor Patrol for LEO usually means motorcycle patrol if I understand correctly. If so what kind of motorcycles did you use in your work ? Have any preferences in make for this purpose ?

I've owned and ridden a lot of motorcycles over the years, Currently have a '78 Yamaha 500cc single and a '67 Matchless 750 Scrambler. My son ride a BMW G/S which at my advanced age have taken out for a spin or two. It's quite a bit more refined than my vintage bikes.

BTW, I never thought of Fisher Space Pens being used by LEO, but when I think about it, an excellent writing instrument for that purpose.

Not an everyday carry, but seems apropos

I have just like it. A few years ago, I ran into a Pentax rep and asked him if he had any Pentax marketing goodies. He very nicely, gave me a Pentax pen, very similar to your pen.

The funny thing is I originally asked the Pentax rep if he had a baseball cap with Pentax on it. He said he didn't, but he did have the pen.

I completely forgot my Cross ballpoint pen. Excellent quality, beautiful look..

I have a Cross ballpoint somewhere - got it from my dad - he got it as a branded item from some business. Nice pen, but much too skinny for my big hands.
The fountain pens are a bit thicker and therefore nicer to hold.
