I have a Cross ballpoint somewhere - got it from my dad - he got it as a branded item from some business. Nice pen, but much too skinny for my big hands.
The fountain pens are a bit thicker and therefore nicer to hold.
I've got XL hands too and I found the PhD pen...and...pencil worked well for me. It has quite a thick barrelled body, also the grip is rubbery. My Physiotherapist recommended it to me because of my big mitts.

The funny thing is I originally asked the Pentax rep if he had a baseball cap with Pentax on it. He said he didn't, but he did have the pen.
I had the Pentax logo woven into a black beenie it looks rather good if I do say so myself

Sorry, not pen related

I buy a box of cheap pens every year, I don’t remember where they go after that.
They evaporate.

I used to buy the cheapest pens. My theory was that if I lost them, no big deal, as they were cheap. But I kept on losing them fairly quickly and I also found I didn't like writing with them, usually they were scratchy and didn't exactly glide over the page.

So I thought I'd go the other way, get some good, quality pens and perhaps then I'd be more careful with them, not lose them and enjoy the writing experience more with a top notch pen.

Surprisingly it worked out very well. I never lost a quality pen in over three decades. One was stolen and one went missing. The one that went missing I found later on, as it was very unusual in appearance (a Yafa) and a co-worker had inadvertently picked it up.

All in all, I probably saved some money just having a few good pens...compared to buying the cheapies by the case every year...or at least broke even, but profited by having a better writing experience with a top notch pen.

In my career I did a lot of writing. This was before small handheld computers were commonly taken to meetings and being a traditionalist, even during the latter part of my working life, I preferred paper and pen...good pen. If I was still working today, would I still favour paper and pen ?

I dunno.

No problem at all. I have a cap that I 'customized' . I have a vintage English motorcycle, big twin. It's a '67 Matchless G 15 CS and I wanted a ball cap with the name 'Matchless' front and centre.

Couldn't find one, but was able to get a Matchless logo, cloth badge, that my wife very kindly sewed into the front of navy blue cap. Looks great.

It certainly is, my solution was to buy a set of CMYK inks* [ or the manufacturers closest approximation] and put them in dropper bottles so I can create any colour I desire. Though there are specialist hues [ Noodlers Apache Sunset** is particularly nice] that I work with that I use quite a bit so I buy a bottle of it rather than mix it myself.**
Ha! This is the last place I thought I'd find a thread on fountain pens. I too tried the printer ink method, but whenever I put pen to paper, the ink feathered like none other.
Right now my daily carry is a Moonman M6 inked with Kyo-Iro Stone Road.

In my experience the qualities of the paper* used has a significant effect on the amount of Ink feathering notebooks from Rhodia and Moleskin are designed to have the best compatibility with the majority of fountain pen inks. Also the amount of ink the pen lays on the paper also has an effect - broader nibs are more prone to feathering and ink bleed through than fine ones. Thinner papers are more prone to Bleed through, while thicker ones are more prone to feathering and sometimes dimensional instabilities due to the presence of moisture from the ink.

* there are a surprising number of variables involved in paper manufacture for instance: the amount cotton present, the method used to remove lignin from the pulp, paper PH, thickness and texture...etc

My father was a office products dealer so I inherited a fetish for pens, and eventually some really nice ones

My daily carry pen / pencil set is a silver finish Rotring 600 ballpoint that I’ve had for probably 20 years. The first part of an oxford shirt that wears out is the corner of the breast pocket where my pen is clipped. The pencil stays in my appointment calendar (I never use ink in a calendar). In my pen box there’s the matching Rotring fountain pen with a fine nib, a Cross gold pen / pencil set I’ve had since the 70’s, a Parker 75 Giselle Sterling set I inherited (fountain pen, mechanical pencil, ballpoint and golf pencil, as well as a desk set), plus several dozen fine fountain pens that were a big deal on eBay for a while but I never got around to selling. I keep a set of western straight nibs and several holders handy for formal writing and to easily change ink colors.

I use Noodler’s inks also, mostly Aircorp Bllue-Black, just to be a little different from the every day Waterman people,

I’ve tried that, I think I managed to hold it for a week at best.
