Nice, Pick-up, you won't be disappointed, the Gitzo tripods are excellent, old or new.
Why so tall, some have asked, well, you can't always be on flat ground, and to be in certain vantage points, on quite steep or rocky ground, you can extend a leg or two down far enough to be level and safe. even on the steepest of slope ( Important with big lenses).
I have been at a sporting event, (surf contest) where there are heaps of people who will just stand directly infront of you on rocks and block you, even though you are already set up there, and some times you know the area will be already crowded at the front, from what happened the previous day, so the next day I came prepared. I set up just behind the crowd with the Gitzo pretty much fully extended, and used a 2.5 ft aluminium work bench to stand on, which gave me space to move around a bit, and just shot directly over the crowds heads, It drew some attention..
