jcrutchley,

You made the right choice. I just came across your thread and here is my experience.

Back around the mid '80's I rented a Pentax 6 X 7 with the 90mm leaf shutter lens and rosewood handle. It was a heavy, daunting beast. I mounted it on the only tripod I had at the time a light-middleweight job and within an hour of using it, the tripod head snapped....fortunately I was able to catch camera and broken tripod before it hit the ground.

The very next morning I stopped in at the local camera shop...looked at a Manfrotto and a Leitz Tiltall. I bought the Leitz and still have it. This is one solid piece....all metal, built like the proverbial Mack truck. No problems with any cameras, including the 6 X 7, my K series bodies with Sigma 150-500 lens mounted, my old Mamiya TLR medium format.

The Tiltall handles it all...without breaking into a sweat. I've had it now for over 35 years. It was pricey, but I got what I paid for and more !

Les

Looking for a sturdy tripod/ball head combination that will hold a Pentax 6x7 or RB67, but won't break the bank. Currently looking at Manfrotto 3021 with 3047 head. Thought I'd see what sort of recommendations I can get here. Thanks for your help!
