Vivitar M42 2x Teleconverter

I've got this old teleconverter in my possession. I was looking on eBay to see what these are selling for. Any of the ones I've seen are listed as 2X-1. The one I have is 2X-8. Just curious what the difference is. I can't seem to find any listings for the 2X-8, so it's got my curioius.

Thanks in advance.

Most vintage 2x tc's are either 4 element or 7 element. The latter "MC7's" are better, but I don't really recommend either. Vivitar did sell a range of tc's as matched to particular lenses, might be an explanation.

I am not sure what the "8" in your TC's name mean except perhaps generation. I have the 2X-1 and it sucks.

Edit: KEH has a description for the 2X-8 with photos. Theirs had the SMC aperture and metering couplers. If yours also does, that might be a point of distinction and/or value. There is also an album on Flickr. showing teardown..

Edit (again): The number after the hyphen appears to indicate mount type. All 2X-5 are Minolta with 2X-3 being Nikon. All 2X-1 seem to be M42 auto with 2X-8 being the SMC/S-M-C variant.

I have a 2X-1 and a 3X-1 from the mid-70s. Everybody needs a 3X M42 TC, right? Or so I thought back then.

My k mount teleconverters are 2x-22 and 3x-22 , but oddly the 2x macro focusing teleconverter is PK/R

I suspect the number designates mount. Does anyone have a PKA vivitar ?

Steve may be correct that the -8 TC may have the Pentax components for not only aperture control but also open aperture metering
