If you're talking about photo processing software instead, surely you can use Raw Therapee and/or Darktable and Gimp, which are also free,
but I think you already know them! However the operating system is able to detect your camera as if it were an external drive, i.e. as a hard-disk
or memory card or pendrive.

many thanks Mario - you got it right... linux can be a bit of a challenge but the UI might be easier than a valometer specially consider the cam is shooting from close to the computer.... be nice to change the dynamic range and other finer settings on the fly viewing them on a big screnn on the fly... thanks again
