almost forgot to ask:

I need a list of favorite lenses to sort through/hunt for - so what's your favorite in these mounts?

F-mount (Nikon)
OM-mount (Olympus)
AR-mount (Konica)
C/Y-mount (Contax/Yashica)

I know this is a Pentax site.... but I also know that not everybody shoots only Pentax...
Nikon F mount - 55mm f2.8 Micro AIS, Voigtlander 40mm, 58mm (but of course you already have these in Pentax - lucky so and so) and 75mm. Nikkor 28mm f4 shift.
C/Y mount - Planar 50mm f1.7, Tessar 45mm f2.8, Sonnar 85mm f2.8, ML 55mm f2.8 Macro

thank you (yeah, yeah - I'll take the heat on the Voigtlanders....)

funny thing - the ML Macro 55/2.8 is already here and I just eBay'd a Planar 50/1.7......

Wow! While it is easy to brag up the Asahi optical products of the time, it is obvious that the rest of the mainline Japanese makers (Tomioka/Kyocera included) were hardly sitting on their thumbs. I think you are going to enjoy dipping into Zuikospace too.

once installed, it will be obvious but the Adaptist mount is about 1 - 2mm smaller in diameter than the OEM mount:
I am curious about the gap. Is it a source of light leak?

so far, no, I've not noticed anything like that...

when I had the OEM mount off and was test-fitting the Adaptist mount, I noticed the gap, so I had a bit of a peek underneath.... it isn't in the mirror box, specifically, so should not present a problem...

quick update - I have two Contax-mount lenses here and neither will focus at infinity; they both get almost all the way there..... but just short

both lenses are amazing at all points up to that end, and neither lens cost me anything even remotely close to serious money...

I am a bit disappointed in this, but I have a Nikkor that should be arriving tomorrow and am considering the Olympus option soon....

Had you ever seen mention of that anywhere before?

Yes, I'd be disappointed too. Seems odd and like you would have assumed it was just one specific lens. Obviously not as you tried two. You've put a lot of effort into this so I hope the Nikkor fixes it.

not for C/Y mount lenses; the instructions (both printed and on the website) state that AR-mount (Konica) lenses will not infinity focus..

infinity focus was one of the issues I checked for with K-mount lenses before I started buying anything else.....

if anything, I have a couple of good, non-infinity focusing lenses, and the rest of this adventure works itself out...

the Nikkor is due today, so we'll see.....

for example - this is the Yashica ML Macro 55/2.8:

this is pretty close to infinity - close enough I was allowing for it....

but here are a couple more that are definitely soft at infinity:
