and it is just a smidge, just that much....

if I were shooting for Facebook or instagram, you'd never see the difference with their squashing algorithms.... but here and flickr are a different story....

not for C/Y mount lenses; the instructions (both printed and on the website) state that AR-mount (Konica) lenses will not infinity focus..

infinity focus was one of the issues I checked for with K-mount lenses before I started buying anything else.....

if anything, I have a couple of good, non-infinity focusing lenses, and the rest of this adventure works itself out...

the Nikkor is due today, so we'll see.....
The Nikkor should focus to inf. You can mount them on normal K mount cameras, they just wont lock in place.

for example - this is the Yashica ML Macro 55/2.8:

this is pretty close to infinity - close enough I was allowing for it....

but here are a couple more that are definitely soft at infinity:

What a shame! That hay bale photo is really lovely otherwise.

Actually, those clouds look weirdly more in focus than the nearer trees. But that may just be contrast playing a trick on me.

no worries - hopefully the Nikkor that arrives this week will put to rest any notions that this has been a waste of time....

almost forgot to ask:

I need a list of favorite lenses to sort through/hunt for - so what's your favorite in these mounts?

F-mount (Nikon)
OM-mount (Olympus)
AR-mount (Konica)
C/Y-mount (Contax/Yashica)

I know this is a Pentax site.... but I also know that not everybody shoots only Pentax...
Of the lenses I have, using on my Sony A7ii:
micro Nikkor-P 55mm f3.5 is really sharp (this is the pre Ais lens)
OM 28mm f3.5 is sharp and so darn cute
Konica Hexanon 24mm has just arrived, I am still testing it, I will try to post on the Primes... forum in next 24 hours

And what would I try:
OM 50 mm/f1.8 and 135mm Auto T
One of the Nikkor medium teles, maybe the 105mm, but all the micro Nikkors have great reputations

Certainly an interesting experiment potentially very, very bad for GAS...

I wonder if it would work on a K-1?

It was a fine idea that I suspect was killed off by the success of mirrorless cameras. Indeed, it begs the question - could a multi-mount adapter for mirrorless be produced in this way? It could be even more useful as it would be technically possible to produce one that allowed small adjustments in length to provide infinity focus for all mounts.

oh, I agree - it's terrifying if your LBA verges on the uncontrollable...

I suspect you would want the WR version of the mount for a K-1; but finding an Adaptist mount was difficult to begin with....

a couple of other PF members have asked me about this conversion; I answered in another thread but thought it should be here also:

it is not without trade-offs; while you still have a fully capable k-mount camera, so far, the other mounts have limitations:

AR-mounts will not focus at infinity

C/Y-mounts are supposed to reach infinity, but the two lenses I've purchased so far do not (and I am loathe to spend any more money on that end)

metering using the green button has been hit-or-miss with two of the three non-K-mount lenses I have... so far, only the Yashica 55mm macro meters accurately...

but... the sensor on the K-S1 produces beautiful colors and wondrous textures, as the shots with both the Yashica ML 55 and this lens can attest to....
