Help With P-TTL Cord For Pentax

Just received in a Vello OCS-P3 cord which states it's for P-TTL Cord for Pentax https://www.vellogear.com/product/5632/Vello-OCS_P3-Off_Camera-TTL-Flash-Cor...tax-Cameras-(3') . However when I connect it the the camera hot shoe, and the other end to the flash, nothing happens....no communication whatsoever. Tried it on both the K3II and K1MII. I'm using a new Pentax AF360FGZII. Flash works perfect with either camera when connected direct to hot shoe on either camera. Also tried reconnecting multiple times and verified mounting. Now what.......bad cord??????

I've got something very similar with a different brand badge, no problem at all. It should be just a bunch of wires connecting one end to the other. First thing to check is for continuity on all four contacts AND the "common", may well be an open circuit somewhere.

Actually just check continuity on all connection points. No open circuits. Only other thing that I can think of is the contacts are in the wrong place?

Sometimes the foot for those cords does not seat fully on the camera shoe. The product photos show a lock pin. Make sure that pin is retracted before attaching.

Does the cable work for non-TTL sync?

The locking mechanism on the camera shoe seems pretty solid. It clicks when it locks. I have another flash I'll try.

You can easily check the cable with a multimeter.

The spacing or position of the pins differs between brands. I'm not sure about lock pins. It is possible you were sent the wrong cable.

It will fire a non TTL Youngnu flash, but not the AF360

I guess it could be mislabeled, but the end that attaches to the camera clearly states "P-TTL Cord For Pentax"

Does the camera detect the AF360 (auto set of X-sync if prior >1/180s and signal flash ready in viewfinder, top LCD, and rear LCD)?

The only time flash and camera communicate is if the flash is in the hot shoe. If I use the cable it's just like turning on the flash not connected to anything. Doesn't read the lens focal length and won't fire.

Well, there you go. If you don't get flash ready, you don't even have analog protocol connection. A close comparison of the shoe contacts to those on the flash will likely show different spacing.

It's the only other thing I can think of. Sent an email to the store, looks like I need to return this one.

Just connected mine to the 360fgz1 and my ks2. It immediately zoomed to match the lens as soon as I turned on the camera.
