Heavy Duty Strap Recommendation

Need recommendations on a heavy strap/sling capable of handling up to 10lbs. Not a big fan of the cross body/should sling, but that may be my only option.

I bought one of the cross body straps for my K5 didn't like the way my camera banged against my leg. Don't know what else is out there, the bay is loaded with them, might also try Bass Pro Shop for some of outdoor gear sling.

I don’t have any particular suggestions but considering the weight, a cross body/shoulder sling sounds like the right choice.

Optech/USA ... I have three of them, especially one for my K3 + Da*300/4 + grip .

Tough, reliable.

I also have the "harness" (also from Optech/USA). That one sure would fit the bill!!

I too have chosen the Optech USA strap system - utility strap

I also use the Joby UltraFit Hand Strap with UltraPlate with the strap

I can place my hand into the grip to control any swing of the camera equipment and help with the weight

I also vary how I carry the camera and lens, cross body, or held in the crook of my off elbow or balanced carefully on my shoulder

+1 for the Optech (USA)

I regularly use this one with my K=3 and all my lenses, incl. FA*300 f4 and the heavier (infamous) VL125mm f1:

I have used mine for more than 4.5 years without a single issue. I found this one very confortable and suit my needs.

I hope that the advice may help.

The domke gripper strap has been working for me. It's very strong with metal parts. I like that you can unclip it from the little strap rings on the camera when needed.

I have a couple of Black Rapids slings that I highly recommend, strength, comfort, durability. I also have a Joby sling that is not too bad either. I went with sling straps several years ago because of neck pain from stock straps.

Optech or Peak Design. Quality is similar, Optech seems to be more versatile system in terms of various scenarios it can be used in. Peak Design also builds its system, but they are slightly behind Optech. I use both systems, Peak Design for 'generic' K-1 configuration, and Optech for Mamiya RB and K-1 with Sigma 150-500.

If it was hitting your leg I think you may have needed to adjust it to come to the hip or higher. Bass Pro/Cabelas is a great idea. I have one of their fishing bags I bought for a camera travel bag, I really don't use it for that but it would work and is a nice GP bag.

I use a large strap from a tripod bag, got some rings for the camera from a hardware store ( they are like big key rings). I do have a black rapid strap but with a really heavy setup I don't trust it.

Domke Gripper...same material and design as the straps on their bags.

I bought a "new-old-stock" Pentax #50010 strap from a local camera shop.
Exactly what I wanted for my Sigma 150-500mm, but that lens is only 1.9kg, so about 6lb with my KP or K-70 fitted … and yes, the strap is fitted to the lens, not the camera

Adjust the strap length to stop "banging". The camera should be at your hip, not leg.
