Acratech ball head question?

While hiking had the locking knob unscrew on another brand head. Luckily I found the knob on the way back. Do the big Acratech ball locking knobs unscrew completely from head? I'd hate to have the head self-destruct on a hike.

Thanks,
barondla

Those on my GXP are captive. I believe that is a feature of the brand.

Agree with Steve, all the knobs on my older GP model are captive.

I've had mine for years and it never failed.
Mind you, make sure you tighten it enough though.

Knobs in some brand / model can completely unscrew from the head. At least 2 of mine can do that, another 3 couldn't.

It does depend on the brand.

Glad to hear the knobs are captive. Wasn't happy when I reached the hiking destination and couldn't use the tripod. Was very lucky to find the missing parts on the hike back.

Thanks,
barondla
