Anyone any suggestions?

I'm looking for a small bag to carry a GRiii, Hoodman loupe, specs, phone and small notebook. I would be nice if it had a place to hold a small water bottle, though I could carry this on my trouser belt.

For looks, I like tatty/used, canvas (or canvas like. Not waxed canvas as it migrates), vintage etc., that does not scream of camera bag. I've just come across Domke wraps (https://tiffen.com/products/domke-color-coded-protective-wrap) - what a great product they are. With these wraps I could convert any bag.

It does need to be small. I don't really like using man bags, so something that is small and looks used and probably cheap (though it doesn't have to be) would be nice.

Any ideas, please?

Not sure about the distressed look, but the best small bags I've seen are the Peak Design Sling and the Wandrd Roam. They come in small sizes. A bit bigger and I would have suggested the Mindshift Gear Photocross or Think Tank Urban Access.

What size laptop? I assume not a backpack?

No dedicated laptop slot but with those wraps the gear and laptop might share space.

Edit: Size is about OK, but the distressed/used look is what I'm looking for. I might have to accept a modern bag like this to satisfy the functionality & size I'm hoping to find. My DSLR bags are all proper camera bags which work fine - they just look like camera bags ...

Whoops! When I said notebook I was in analogue mode. "Notebook" was my shorthand for pens, paper and a drawing/sketchbook, rather than laptop size was what I'm looking for. Sorry if I hadn't made myself clearer. I'll take a look at your suggestions, but I suspect they may be too big. Thanks for helping/suggesting.

You could consider a padded insert type of thing and just use any bag that suits your taste. Or, since it's a GRIII, just a fitted case for the camera.

For about 15 years now I have used a Fossil messenger bag as a walk about. In this I can put several k mount or M42 primes, plus batteries, memory cards, cell phone, etc. It makes the perfect “man purse”

I have a Think Tank Retrospective 4 that I really like, but it might be a bit big for what you want. I carry a 35mm SLR and a couple of lenses in mine It has the tatty canvas look you're after though. It's extremely well made.

Excellent for what I wanted. Pockets and straps aplenty - even has slots for pencils/pens.. Right size and when used with Domke wraps and neoprene padding is perfectly secure.

The best "distressed" camera bags I've tested (and that's quite a few) would be the Think Tank Retrospective. They come in many shapes and sizes, but they're more messengers than slings.

I would really suggest having a look at the Peak Design Sling. They got almost all the details right.

Thanks Bernard for the suggestion. I've just bought a used £5 military (olive green) small bag as an experiment. Your Peak Design suggestion is my reserve, if this bag fails to make the grade. I intend to us a Domke Wrap to protect the GR. I assume you've come across this versatile accessory?
