Yeah, I think I'm gonna take this safer habit too. And thanks for your congrats! I really like this stuff even if the focus assist beam is always flashing in slave mode, which after verification appears to be normal behaviour. :-)
If you go into the custom functions menu of your camera, you can choose to have the focus assist beam to shut down after 10 seconds (after last flash shot). The way to do it is explained near the top of page 30 of the online manual. Below is a shortcut to the manual in case you need it. You can adjust the auto shutdown of the focus assist beam timing to 10, 20, or 30 seconds according to the manual.

Happy shooting.

Yes, I already know that but this is not the point: in slave mode the focus assist beam - while not in use - is always flashing ( normal behaviour ). But thanks anyway. you tried to help. :-)

Oh! by the way, do I have to change any setting on my camera for the center pin of the hot shoe to be active? My question will probably have some of you laughing but this is my first external flash so I hope you will understand my lack of knowledge on this particilar point.

The center point should be automatically sensed by the camera when in use by the Godox equipment, whether the lights are in TTL mode or not. I have never had to change anything for my Godox lights or transmitter. There is nothing to set in the camera settings, the equipment adapts without changing anything.

Oh! thanks a lot for that quick reply - and answer! I'm gonna do portrait next week and I wanted to be sure everything would be ready for the session. I really appreciate you brought the last touch of information. :-)

You're welcome. If the equipment has appeared to be performing the basic functions alright when you have used it, it should be fine. Every once in awhile I get my transmitter and some lights out and do some test shoots to make sure everything is alright. You should be fine.

I use an old Nikon SB-28 on my K3 and K50. In AUTO mode on the flash it works perfectly.

can I leave the batteries in when stored in the carry bag? No risk?
Should be fine, I do that. They don't leak and don't appear to deplete.

As of now, I put them in a plastic bag next to my flash kit in my shoulder bag but I am tented to leave them in. I don't like those long preparation procedures... :-P

I still use {on my K-30} the Vivitar “automatic” flash I used thirty+ years ago when our daughters were young. I tested it with a digital multimeter, and it is ‘safe’. Unfortunately, the name plate has fallen off, but in recent years I purchased a similar unit on eBay; it is labeled “550FD”.

Depends on your budget but if you are willing to spend a bit, the Metz 52 AF-1 for Pentax is the ultimate flash. It provides perfect P-TTL exposure on my K-3 every single time. It is literally set and forget.

I went through a “flash jag” before switching to Pentax equipment.
When I purchased my Q-7 in December 2014, I discovered that their ‘SR’ allowed me to capture scenes in public places without flash, so now I use flash only at home, and much less often than when I used Canon equipment.

That would be nice if they were available anywhere.

Seems like good quality aftermarket units for Pentax are limited. I had 2x AF540 flashes die on me with minimal use so I hesitate to spend the premium for the new version of it.

I still have one that I love, indeed it's an excellent flash. However Metz wend under, so I wouldn't advise it.

Nowadays, Godox is a strong contender in the market, and their products can expand thanks to cross-compatibility, remote controls built-in, etc.
