Little Micro Switch Battery Grip

What is the function of the little micro switch on the Pentax battery grips?
Mine is missing.

Most likely, it tells either the battery grip or the camera when the grip is attached, allowing the camera to switch to the grip for power. It might be replaceable but would require disassembly of the grip and a suitable part.
