Monopod: With-Without Head

Okay, so I am keeping the monopod and I returned the 234rc head. I may eventually end up with the same head but I want to try a few other things so I returned while the returning was good. The main reason for return was load capacity. 5.5 lbs If it was just a pound more...

I am going back this weekend when I have a little more time and try some ballheads. Their not supposed to be as convenient as the tilt head but I want to try so I know for myself.

I really appreciate everyones comments and help. What I am wondering still though is for the folks that run without a head is how that works? Maybe just don't do verticals very offten?

I have the FA* 300/2.8 on a monopod without the head. That was an intentional choice, since the tripod collar on the lens allows the movement from landscape to portrait orientation with little effort.

I didn't vote, since there's never a best answer for all. I would consider using a head if the situation warranted it!
