Here's another pic taken 5 minutes ago. Still using K20D, 540FGZ and RD-604 trigger synced at 1/160s.

Because cheap old flashes do not have a PTTL pre-flash.

your unit basically the same as mine. Coz it use the same (identical) transmitter. Means my transmitter can trigger your receiver and vice versa (if the channel is set match).
Your receiver use 1 pcs CR2 3V while mine use 2 pcs AAA batt.

Would you please try this?
- Replace batt of transmitter with new one. Duracell 23A 12V is cheap.
- Replace batt of receiver with new one.
- Set the channel in OFF-OFF position.

Wait... is there any chance you already mod your transmitter? I mean adding external antenna or coiled wire?

I tried with another battery and another transmitter and still can't sync above 1/30... it seems to fire slightly late.

Im using these from dealextreme.com

Except for branding they seem to be of similar build / quality as the ebay stuff.
($19.55 including free shipping - not exactly Pocket Wizards)

With K10D and FGZ360 it works up to 1/160. On 1/180 a small portion of the picture doesn't receive the flash before the shutter has moved past it.

When using several flashes I hook this up to a simple $12 flash unit from the same store and use the 360 in slave 2 mode. Works great indoors even with umbrellas and such.

This may be true for ebay triggers, but I wouldn't make a broad statement that radio triggers don't work above 1/120. I have Alienbee cybersyncs that I use at (the pentax max) 1/180 all the time, and I've used them at 1/2000 with my G9.
Never had a problem with Flash Waves at 1/180.

I use these:

No problems at 1/180s with a AF-540FGZ.

* Camera on M
* Camera: Fn->Flash->Flash Mode: Flash On
* Flash turned to ON (not wireless)
* Flash mode: M
* Do not rely on the include batteries
* Do not use rechargable batterie in the receivers! Most need 1.5v and will not work with 1.2v

I have the same fleabay triggers (the V2s variety) and had no problems going to 1/180 w/ Nikon flashes and my K10D.
When the transmitter battery goes, it usually drops sync speed by one stop so that's when you know to replace it.

Some K10D's sync slower. Some triggers sync slower. Some flashes sync slower. Since you tried swapping triggers and flashes already, you might want to see if anyone near you has a camera you can swap in for testing...

I'll go out and get some new batteries for all, but it seems odd to me that that would fix the issue since it seems to work with old cheap flashes.

There's a reason those things are so cheap; they're crap. Make sure you have fully charged batteries in everything. It does make a difference.
The new ones from YongNuo (CTR-301) are leaps and bounds ahead of the previous eBay Poverty Wizards.

Should I use these with my new Promaster 7500 edf? Also forgive my ignorance but there will be no auto sync using triggers right? Meaning even though I am wireless and this flash is P TTL on the hot shoe it will not be using the trigger?

I'm Thinking you just have a bad set of triggers Albert. They are just too inconsistent. I'm no engineer but i would think they would treat any flash the same in terms of triggering the flash to fire. Maybe your triggers just can't sync.

It will work fine but you'll be shooting manual mode. That would be true of any flash/trigger combo but the best way to get good results anyway.
