Which cheap and cheerful tripod with quick release for prosumer camera?

Hi

Need a tripod for my wife's prosumer quickly.

I am looking for a tripod with the following characteristics:

1. quick release plate
2. has 3 independent legs (not those with the legs tied to the centre column)
3. has to be light
4. has to be cheap! Maybe something like A$60 or so?

Any recommendation?

Thanks!

Dick Smith has one that meets your criteria.

In fact two: a small size for ~$20 and large ~$30.

Thanks for the hint. Are u referring to this?

DIGITAL CONCEPTS 57" Tripod (XG4795) - Dick Smith Electronics - Australia.

The legs are somehow tied to the centre column. I think this will limit the creative use of the tripod and would want something with 3 independent legs.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes that looks like the one.

I wasn't sure what you meant by independent legs. If they are not tied to the centre post they would need to have substantial hinges & strength to hold rigid, which then might rule out being lightweight.

Good point. I will visit one of the Dick Smith store to have a look at the tripod. Thanks again.

This is what I use. PRO CARBON FIBER MAGNESIUM ALLOY CAMERA TRIPOD LEGS 92 - eBay (item 360103216043 end time Jan-29-09 07:19:22 PST)

and I am really pleased with it I put a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head on it and the combo was less the 200$ us.

Keep us informed on what you decide we are all interested.
