Faulty SD card.

A quick question on Card information.
I have an SD card which has begun to cause problems. Wont record some photos, and having download problems.
I believe there is program for redeeming info from a faulty card.
Can anybody give me more information on this?

Thanks.

I really doubt this is a photo contest thread.

Moved to correct forum.
No penalty points Bruce but you do have to go stand in the corner with a pointy hat on for a couple of hours.

How old is the card. How many write/reads on it? Did you try a different card reader?

SD cards are cheap these days, you should have more than one, anyhow. Try another to see if you get the same results with the same set-up.

This is basic SOP for potentially find out what is wrong. Lots of variables, here.

Do you format in camera or with OS? Former correct, latter a No-No!

Don,in answer to those questions :

. The card is an SD card about 12 months old. (2G)
. About 2/3 full
. I have about 6 cards at the moment/ plus 2 new ones due in mail
. Card Reader reads other cards no problem.
. My enquiry was mainly seeking info as to if/how I can redeem material off the
faulty card. Had just taken about 25 shots and have been unable to down load in
normal way. Even tried using USB cable to camera, but still didnt work.
. Pictures show up on camera playbackscreen ok (except 2)

I knew there was something wrong when camera started to show on screen
"This image has not been recorded".
No problem with other cards.

Thanks for the interest. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I believe if you go to the Card Manufacturer's website, you may find recovery software. If you get images off the card I recommend not using it again afterwards. WHere do you format the card? In camera, I hope. If so this may be just a faulty card to be avoided in future. I have never used such myself, but seems I have seen such listed at at least one of the manufaturer's site, Sandisk, maybe.

yea, sandisk has memory card data retrieval software that supposedly works for all kinds of memory cards - i got it on one of those mini-cd's (which is awesome since i have mainly have slot-loading drives, heh) and it came with my sandisk extreme III cards....

i'm not sure if sandisk provides the software for download on their site...

Try this Bruce Memory Card Recovery Software to Recover Lost Photos - CardRecovery
OR...if you would like a Sandisk recovery cd, I could send you one (have plenty).

Thanks for all the help, guys. Gives me something to play with now, hopefully with positive results.

No way I will be using this one again, actually put a black X on the label to identify it till I toss it.

Thanks again.
