the AF500FTZ only supports TTL and manual modes, and the K100 does not support TTL but only P-TTL
the flash can only work in manual mode on this body.
The flash is an excellent flash, but use on a DSLR is limited to *istD and DS which both support TTL flash.
Note TTL flash has a sensor that reads light reflected back off the film (or photo sensor UV screne) and therefore measures actual light through the lens.
P-TTL flash uses a sensor off the viewing screen (like normal metering) and a preflash before the mirror goes up, and then calculates the flash duration based upon the known open apature of the lens, the stop-ped down apature set by the camera body and the amount of light it recieves back from the preflash
