help with Vivitar MC 2x Tele Converter

I have a Vivitar MC 2x Converter mounted with a pentax-DA 1:3.5-5.6 18-55mm AL, everytime I take a photo it comes out black......

any idea why this is happening?

What was the aperture, exposure time and ISO. that is what is meant when someone asks for EXIF.

on the camera when I try to adjust the Aperture it just reads ---

Does the teleconverter have the contacts on the side that faces the camera? Send a pic of the back of the lens if you are not sure what I mean. If there are no contacts, the converter is not communicating with the camera.

Yes. The 18/55 does not have an apature ring A/M switch to manually set f-stop and to the Vivitar is probaably a manual. That combination will not work. Even at wide open at 3.5 with 2x = f7 at 200 iso you would have a very dark photo.
Manual 2X multiplyr= shooting with Manual lenses. jim

the Vivitar is a manual, I got a few photos that were some what visible but I had to set the camera up for a long exposure....

so for this converter to work I need fully manual lenses and/or lenses with the A stop?

is there a tele converter that would work with the 18-55 af lens? I read about a 2x auto tele converter, but im just not sure

Sure there is . It has to have the contact buttons on both sides of the tele-converter, that is on the Lense face plate of your camera. I have a Promaster Spectrum Z AF 1.7 qnd also a 2.0
auto They both auto focus and allow complete setup in any mode.
