Ball Head Question

Hi All:

I have an OK set of Bogen tripod legs that I have been using with my K100D. It has a pan head on it from a spoting scope that I hate. I'm tempted to get the Bogen 488RC0 head for about a $100.00. My biggest lens (right now) is a Sigma 70-300 APO. Any thoughts on this matchup? Do I need a bigger (more expensive) head? Can I get by with a cheaper (Ebay maybe) head? Anything else I should consider before spending my cash? TIA!
