Looks like it goes right onto the mirror box, and is very thin, so it seems it'd be OK in that way, to me? I can see the use of one, easily-enough.

i am very skeptical of ANY elements outside of those that make up the original lens to "not affect image quality"

Anyway what happened to simple diligence?

A layer between the sensor and the lens? Sounds like a potential image quality inhibitor.

Well, I kind of *am* one. (With some pretty big qualifiers: it's mostly just that if I can have a good-sized hood instead, I usually prefer that,) I wouldn't likely leave such a thing in *all the time,* but if conditions were crappy, one less thing to worry about, having just the one body.

I guess the idea is they're disposable.

I imagine if you are a journalist in a war zone, the little layer of film is far more preferable than dust and debris getting into your body...

thats why you have weather sealed lenses, and usually one will do the trick.

if you're so worried change lenses under your shirt, very easy, you should try it.

I'd think any time when you might run into really nasty stuff in the air, I think there's a place for it. It's not like it's *guaranteed* to get messed up any given time you used it.

I've wondered why somebody didn't make something like that, but I would have wanted it to be super-ultra multi-coated high transparency zero reflectivity ;-) Plastic?

Mfg site is: DUST-AID : Sensor Cleaning Products for DSLR Cameras

They're camera-specific and starting to ship on some Canon models in a month or so. We'll let the Canon owners trial the concept.

Of course, the result is dust (which just won't go away) on our new shields and old lenses, but not inside the belly of the camera.

I wonder if the plastic film is as static-free and dust-resistant as the sensor is. Any bets here? I'm confident that the plastic film, unlike the sensor, does not jiggle about doing the high-Herz shimmy when the camera is turned on ....
