TTL Extension cord reco?

Hi all

I've been a casual photographer for while, but I'm relatively new to shooting with flash, as well as this forum. So far so good!

I'm looking for a TTL Extension cord, and wondering what advice people might have.

Flash is a Pentax AF280T, which I have just purchased. Seems great so far.
I have an *ist DS, as well as a P30 that I still use from time to time.

I'm considering a Promaster Off Camera TTL Cord to start experimenting with off-camera flash. Is this a good choice, or should I spend more money and get something from Pentax? Are there other options I should consider? Will this work with my gear? Any input and advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott

The Promaster cable works perfectly with the 360 and 540 flashes on a DS, K10, and probably all other Pentax DSLR's. I don't know about the 280 though but if it is working "on camera" then it seems it should work with the cable. It costs a lot less than the Pentax 3 piece assembly but performs the same function.

the DS should work with that flash in TTL .
i use TTL flashes with the 3(3meter) piece pentax cord. it works fine on my DS.
i bought the pentax pieces before there were alternatives. ebay for $50usd. B&H at the time had them listed for $108usd at the time.
it's the best $$ i ever spent. it will open up an area for you that you will not believe. especially if you shoot macros.

Hi Scott,

I've had and used the Promaster for well over a year and it works great. I use it with both the DS and the K10 (but not that much with the K10) in various combinations with the 200T, 280T, 500 FTZ, 360 FGZ, and the 540 FGZ. It works for both TTL and P-TTL.

I especially like it because it's one piece and less for me to lose.

Thanks so much for the input. It seems like a logical choice, but I wanted to make sure. I think I'll get one, and start messing around with off-camera flash.

much appreciated!

scott,
the k10 does not recognize TTL flashes, only P-TTL. are you saying it works with TTL flashes.

Which Promaster cord works. It appears that a couple of them may fit the need, however, the PR8179 specifically says Pentax.

I am using the K10 with the 540 flash and want to make sure the cord still alows the flash to fully communicate with the camera.

The off camera ttl cords are brand specific. The Promaster 8179 for Pentax works on the DS and the K10D and probably all the other Pentax DLSR's. It works the same as if the 540 flash was attached to the camera.
