Portable Storage

I was thinking of buying a portable storage, and was wondering if any one has used one. I understand that a size of 40g is better.

I'm open to suggestions

Forty grams isn't all that much weight, but considering your just storing photons/electrons it might do just fine.

What kind of storage are you talking about?

If its something to copy flash memory cards into while out and about...
There was a thread here that implied you might actually be better off with just a handful of memory cards. This is only cost effective with a small number of small cards. (10, 2GB ultra-IIs would be about $350.00US at Costco/Sams Club-a bit less through B&H, more just about everywhere else.)

I've got a 40GB SmartDisk (no viewer) and an 80GB Flashtrax (small viewer). Both use Li-ion proprietary rechargeables. Transfer is simple (plug and push button) and reasonably fast (7-9 minutes per GB). Either is actually very nice depending on circumstances. Both are USB2 to the PC and transfer times to the PC are 1/4 to 1/3 that of card to PC times.

40GB is probably too small for auxillary HD storage through USB to PC unless you are reclaiming hard drives from obsolete equipment--think 500GB to a TB in this case. And Multi disk RAID 0/1.

Does either of these two take SDHC card?

I've seen (and bought) the Transcend 140x 4G cards (regular SD) for under $40 including shipping.

FYI,
Bart

Don't have any yet. I'm fairly sure the Flashtrax does NOT-older technology. The SmartDisk site is down this AM (6:22 MDT). I'll check again later.
