Third Party accessories

I just purchased a new "Cable Release" for my K10 from DX in Hong Kong, China. I wasn't expecting much for $5.93 delivered to me by Air Mail from Hong Kong, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the delivered product.

Of course I haven't used it for years and cannot attest to it's durability, but for less than 1/7th of the cost of a genuine Pentax accessory, I think it will probably be OK. I tried it out and it worked perfectly. The fit and finish of the product was, In my mind, excellent. If you need one of these "Cable releases" I'd recommend this one. It came to me from Hong Kong in about two weeks.

jimH, just curious--does your cable release have a half-press for focus, and does it lock in place for bulb exposures?

This is quoting the instruction sheet that came with it:

1. The release button can be pressed halfway or all the way. Pressing it halfway activates the autofocus and sets the shutter speed and aperture setting.

2. Pressing it completely take the picture.

3. For long exposures of continuous shooting, press the release button completely and slide it in th direction of the arrow. This locks the button in the depressed position, slide the button back to it's original position to release.

Jim, this is a great post for me. I have a remote I got from China dirt cheap also, and it functions great, but I needed something like this for very long exposures in bulb mode.

Thanks Jim!

Please take note that remotes for Canon's Rebel series of DSLRs (Canon branded or otherwise) should work fine with Pentax DSLRs. I point this out because the Canon remotes are typically easier to find than the Pentax versions. My LCS carries the Canon remote for $23 and stocks an off-brand for $15. He will gladly order me a Pentax branded remote for $39 ;-)

I have one of these Jueying remotes, too. I think I paid all of $3.80 for it. Works very well, even when connected to a 20 ft extension cord from Radio Shack.
