I have an old Gossen Luna Pro that I only use for extended exposures at night. Otherwise, I stick with the camera's meter. This was true even when I shot film with my ME Super.
I also have a K20D and just found an old light meter (Sekonic Digi Lite F L-328 in the basement of our lab...all stuff used in the old film days...what a bonanza I found when I was instructed to "get rid of the junk."

My question is how to take extended time photos with the K20D which only goes up to 30 seconds? Multiple exposures or what?

I ended up with one of these Spiratones. Really simple to use: turn it on, flash, and the LED next to the stop lights up... one stop too small but as that's constant, it's easily adjusted for.
I've had that meter for years. Works great for flash metering. Just stand it up, turn it on, flash and read the stop. I use it with my monoblocs, when I use them, which is almost never these days. (No longer taking weddings).
