Amvona Tripod Review

Well my wife dropped my cheap tripod about a week and a half ago, and broke the head. Due to her overwhelming feelings of guilt I was able to talk her into a new one. I looked at some of the local camera shops and online and decided that a really nice tripod was out of my budget ($100) but instead of settling for another Cheap One. I decided to give Amvona.com a try.

I ended up buying through eBay rather than the site directly and ended up with these legs:

AT-L103T Nomad™ Series Tripod Legs by DynaTran

and this head:

ATH-H96 Magnesium Alloy Ball Head by DynaTran™

Well I got both shipped for $105, and they arrived today. Now I'll be the first to admit that I've never owned a Manfroto or Bogen Tripod, but I have played with them in the stores and for initial quality, the Amvona set seems comparable.

The legs appear bomb proof well constructed and lightweight (although I'm not sure that they are quite as light as advertised) The only concern I have are the joints, they are plastic and I don't know how well they will hold up in the long run.

The head is great too, also very sturdy and tight fitting parts, again the one concern for quality is the plastic knobs. The other thing that I don't like but that is no reflection on the quality of the product is that the detachable plate is too big for my k100d, I can't get the battery door open while the plate is in place, fortunately I can loosen the plate rotate it 90 degrees and access the batteries just fine. If it gets to be a big problem I will probably sell this head and get a smaller one from Amvona.

Anyway so far I'm very excited and feel that I now have a tripod that is worth at least half again if not double of what I paid for it.

Be careful with that URL (Amvona.com) - 1 pair of swapped letters gives you a Japanese porn site. Just so you know

I was going to get one of their tripods off Ebay - but US$80 for postage on something that was selling for $50 - um, no! One of the big camera stores here has a Manfrotto knockoff called a Hoffman (doesn't exist on the internet) which seems to be a 055C legs and 222 head copy. $229. It's schweet!

I paired the AT-CF92 legs with the ATH-H96 Ball head which is knockoff of bogen's offering. Very lightweight, sturdy, and durable.

I've been looking into the ATH-A03 head and the AT-L105T legs from Amvona.com

I am just waiting to find them for the right price (cheap as possible).

xfloggingkylex,

I went to their ebay store and went to their tripod section. Sorted by ending soonest and then found the legs I wanted. I ended up sniping the legs for 42+shipping and the head for 38+ shipping. I know people hate snipers on eBay but if you really want the best deal thats the best way to get it.

Snipers aren't as bad as Trawlers Justus. I've been tryng to buy an old Vivitar PG-1 Pistol Grip for the past 2 months. Some guy named PAPABEARCDI ended up buying every one I bid on (at least 15) until yesterday. He paid $45+ for each one (way over priced) before I snuck past him to get one for $12+shipping. I figure he is running a camera flea market or something.

MRRiley,

Soooo true. I'm starting to recognize some of the names bidding on lenses. There are a few that must have 30 or 40 lenses.
