Does such a thing even exist?

I was playing with a reversing ring and 28 mm lens, and came to the conclusion that focusing and framing would be much, much easier with some sort of rail mounted between the tripod and the camera. sliding the camera on the rail would let me focus in no time.

Does such a thing exist? Does it work as well as I'm imagining?

They are called Macro Focusing Rails and they work great if you have a decent one.

Here is a photo of a bellows adjusting rail as well as a focusing rail and the pistol grip is removable allowing it to be used on a tripod.

Thanks for the update. I found a deal on a FA 50 macro so when it arrives it will become my main macro lens. I'll keep the reversing ring for fun with the 28...
