SDHC card speed: breaking the myth

a lot of questions had been circulating lately regarding the SDHC cards r/w speed. whether there is significant effect on the performance of the card specially when shooting burst mode on the K-7's 5fps shooting speed.

since we don't have the K-7 or atleast to those who tried it shooting with the beta K-7 or any other dSLR with burst mode, I want to ask in particular if is there a noticeable lag or delay in buffering?

cards in question would be an Ultra (15MB/s) and an Extreme (30MB/s). is there a major difference? is it worth it to buy a faster card or would an 10 or 15MB write be enough?

If you want to shoot RAW brackets in quick succession and view them quickly in between then the extra 1-2 second delay may be distracting (personal experience from using a "normal" class 6 card instead of sandisk extreme 3 ). Can't comment on ultra though.

Edit: I have no experience with K-7, but what slows down K10D - slows down K-7 as well.

Just finished playing with a production model at PMA Oz - Not sure of the absolute write rate required, but a generic (slow) sd card did make the shooting speed slow down after a few shots. Trying again with a UltraII card let the K-7 go until we got bored of holding the button.

Again, not sure of the specific data rates required - maybe it's listed in the user manual (Ned Bunnell's posted a copy on Scribd).

Hope this is of use,
