Question for SMC Auto F 1.7x owners?

Are the inside glass elements perfectly clear? I just received a used one and the inside of the glass shows a very uniform and very light feathering (for lack of a better word). It doesn't look like it belongs, buts uniformity makes me question that belief. Any thoughts? Sorry that I don't have any photos to back up my shotty explanation.

I hate to say this but you have fungus in the unit. It should be just as clear as a good Pentax prime lens. If this was an Ebay sale, get your money back (including shipping) BEFORE you return the unit. I cannot stress the B E F O R E part nearly enough. If the seller does not do that immediately. Give the guy 48Hrs to respond and then open a paypal dispute if he doesn't and take clear pictures of the issue as well.

Unfortunately that's what I was afraid of. I have been fortunate enough to not have experienced this yet in my dealings with many used photography items. It was actually not from eBay, but a respected reseller, so I am not worried.

Yes but cover your A$$. Any "respected seller" would never sell a lens with Fungus. It's easy to spot and they should have inspected the thing before selling it. Take clear pictures of the fungus. It's not easy to do but a good way I've tried is to put them all on a table, use a flashlight through the back side and take shots of the other side. Then just reverse the unit to photograph both ends.

Point well taken. Thank you for the tips to photograph. I don't want to name the company as I have bought thousands of dollars worth of used equipment from them with no issues. I will chalk it up to a bad day for that inspector.
