AF400 Vs AF280

As the title says,

I'm looking at a AF-400 flash and an AF-280 flash.

I'm not a big one on understanding the guide numbers and such. So, I was wondering which one is a better deal.

Thanks guys, as always you all are awesome.

What camera will you be using it with?
And are you getting them for TTL capabilities?
If so, they're not so good for the dSLRs after the *ist D range - no TTL provision, only P-TTL (ie. FGZ flashes required for auto TTL).

I assume you're referring to AF-400T and AF-280T (there are other AF-400 models with significant differences).

In terms of interfacing with the camera body, they are similar.

The most obvious difference is that AF-400T is handle mount, AF-280T shoe-mount. AF-400T is bigger, heavier, and more powerful.

You should download the manuals and decide for yourself:

I'll mainly be using it on my K110, I'll hopefully be getting a new body soon.

I'll mainly be using to replace using my built-in flash, I'm mainly looking to bounce it off of walls for various reasons/effects.

Thanks for the link, I knew the AF-280 was shoe mount, guess that makes the decision for me.

The AF-280T (and AF-400T) does not support P-TTL. But the interface with Pentax K series DSLRs is excellent.

Set the flash to A mode and the camera body to P mode. The camera will change its settings to match with those on the flash - something my K10D can't do with the AF540FGZ (I don't trust P-TTL).

I have an AF-280T and its little brother AF-200T. I like them.

After getting your flash, if you have any question, just post.
