? about Bogen 3047 head

I just picked up a used Bogen 3047 head. It's big and heavy. I decided to make it a dedicated macro head. There is a brass bolt on the side of the head. It doesn't seem to hold anything together. I can't figure out what the bold is used for. Please help. Thanks.

BTW, the "macro focusing rail" attached to the head is from a Pentax belows K that has been staying in the box since I got a bunch of extension tubes. It took me about 20 minutes to convert it to a macro focusing rail.

I would bet it's a spare attachment bolt for attaching a camera, and they just machined that spot to convieniently hold it. My Cullmann head has two holes to hold spare plate attachment bolts - one for 1/4" and one for 3/8".
