Sto-fen bouncers

Those Sto-fen omni-bouncers - do they help when you haven't got a ceiling? Outside for instance.

Would you angle the flash up, or just straight ahead with one of them on?

I think you aim directly head on with one of those on. For ceiling shots, I think a reflector is used instead. I'm still a flash noobie myself.

I use mine whenever I want to soften and disperse the light - straight on works fine and sometimes angled away to drop the intensity. It really does soften the shadows nicely.

I believe they recommend a 45 deg angle and not stright on.

i use an inflatable softbox diffuser from ebay - $5 and looks really crappy but heard it works better.
