Lowepro slingshot 100AW for beginner?

Hi,

I just got myself a new pentax camera and lens. I,m nowlooking for a bag, and the 100AW looks small and functionnal, which is good since as a beginner I don't have that much stuff...But is it to small? And or is the 200AW too big? And are there other comfortable bags out ther for beginners ? (Usage of the bag : vacation : beach, forests, family outings ; Family parties, everyday family pictures AND architecture worc in the city, suburbs, for all types of buildins and jobs : indutrial, food industry, commertial, residential etc, indoor and outdoor, roof inspections, summer and winter etc...You must be getting the picture by now...

I hope this helps:

Incidentally, that old post was made more than a year ago so any prices will likely have changed. There are links found throughout that thread to other forum discussions and bag comparisons as well.
Choosing a bag is fun and nearly never ending.

I had a similar thought when I was looking for a bag. Take a look at M-Rock. I found that their sling bags are similar and the sizes seem to be half sizes to the lowepro. In other words, they have a bag which I got that is bigger than the 100 and smaller than the 200. Nice quality as well. Hope this helps.

I found the 100AW sufficient for ages when I first got started. It could carry camera, three lenses, a mini tripod, batteries, charger and the like just in the main compartment, and a film camera with smallish lens (or other accessories) in the top. I still use it often. The only reason I got a bigger bag was because I got a 70-210/2.8 that could fit in it only if I was prepared to carry the camera itself over my shoulder.

Always best to go into a shop and have a look at the actual bags though.

@Nowhere Matt - wow, that's efficient packing.

I'd suggest a 200 as you can then set it up like me If you're trying to store as many lenses as it can hold, then from the pictures I've seen, I don't think it 'works' as well as if it somewhat 'empty'. I only have the camera with lens mounted (lenshade in place, no lenscap), 1 extra lens (same lenshade mounted, no lenscap) and a flash unit in the main compartment with the dividers positioned so that I lift everything out from the top (I think I posted a pic somewhere here once). I never open the zipped flap past the corner of the bag and thus never have to put the bag down to get at anything. I usually have a camcorder in the top compartment, and a small bottle of water in the main section.

Also, I forgot to mention, I tried my camera K10D with 16-45/4 in a 100 and it didn't really sit nicely and I find my new K7 doesn't sit as nice as the K10D due to the the body shape, however it's still fine.

100 is too small IMO. Get the 200 and you can carry a few non-photo related things in it if you need.

Costco Canada has a Swiss Army branded version of the 100AW for C$39.99 (or was it $35.99?). Has netting for a water bottle too (not sure if the LowePro had that or not).

it depends on what YOU will be carrying, but IMO, that 100 is too small. For carrying just a few pieces, i 'll just take a waist pack or a small shoulder bag.

i have the 200 and also the 300 and the 200 is just right for me for pretty much any outing.
A few of us got the 200AW new for $45, pm me and i will give you the dealer name. what a deal! (no, i have no affiliation at all- just stumbled on a great deal)

lowpro slingshot 100

The lowpro slingshot 100 is to small. Look at the dolica travel backpack. It has two straps, can be used as a sling bag, two openings on the side. I have the lowpro 200 and when fully loaded it can be heavy. I have been looking at the dolica. You can find the dolica at

It might be in-store only; this was at a BC Costco so maybe limited run of products? Nice looking bag although the shape is a dead giveaway for a camera bag (again, it's probably a rebranded LowePro)

I have 100AW and it's a great little bag.
It's capable of taking quite a lot of stuff. There was a time when I used to carry K10D + grip + FA31ltd, and DA*50-135 and Sigma 10-20. Still having space for apple and biscuit
Since I sold my bigger lenses, I don't see need for bigger bag, unless I'm not taking 2 cameras but that happens rarely. These days, the bag easily takes K10 + grip and FA31, with 10-20 and F50 and Sigma 105. When I had K100s I could pack both of them in, one with DA40 and one with 10-20 attached and still had space for Sigma 105 as longer option. And of course apple and biscuit...
All in all 100AW is a great bag. I don't have experience with 200 but I think it'll let you pack in bit more. The problem then is, how much weight can one shoulder take! I really wouldn't want to carry more, for longer walks, then I described above.

IMHO getting a 300AW is better in the long run,not to heavy and when building your LBA stores heaps, and when you go overboard get a 350AW or 400

cheers

When I was looking, I looked at the 100, 200 and 300 side-by-side. I found the 100 too small (probably big enough for basic gear, but for my 6'4" frame, I felt like I was carrying a purse), the 300 too large (like it would be severely overweight for a one-strap pack if moderately loaded) and the 200 about right. I got the 200 and I like it, but if I am goint to carry anough gear to fill it, I switch over to a two-strap pack (Tamrac Adventure 9) for comfort.
