Sigma EF-500 DG Super DIY repair????

Any idea if there are any places that sell feet for Sigma flashes? I have an odd feeling that I will have to pay an arm and a leg if send it to Sigma for repair (the wings of the foot broke off). The flash seems to be working fine. I'm just scrambling for an option as my other two flashes have gone down this month as well. Not been a good 4 weeks for my equipment.

I have been eyeing my tubes of JB weld (and baling wire.. and duct tape)...

I broke the tangs off the base of my EF 530 DG Super. I ordered the part and fixed it myself. It was easy. I'm sure the base will be cheaper in the US - we get ripped off in Aust.

Here's photos showing the fault & the repair:

Thanks Dan. I'll cross my fingers that I don't get taken to the cleaners over a plastic part.

Just a quick update. Cost of foot is $16 plus UPS shipping.

Part came today. Itemized cost:

Part: $4
S/H: $12

I'll post an update when the part is on the flash. I suppose I should take a photo or two of the process eh?

It seems odd to me that both Monyoya's and dosdan's flash feet appear to be broken exactly the same way.

In my case, I stumbled forward (I tripped over a 4" riser) and fell down on to a wooden pew, with one hand outstretched and the camera, with the flash mounted, in the other. The flash hit the pew and broke away from the camera. The alternative would have been to damage the part of the camera that mounts the flash, or the lens. I know which option I prefer.

Waited till I got home to do the repair (since the part arrived after I needed it... ).

It's pretty straight forward. Remove the four screws on the bottom of the flash. Carefully remove the bottom, then remove the four screws on the inside:

The foot comes off with a bit of careful jiggling. After which you can remove the pins that are surrounded by springs. Don't lose them.

Put the pins in the new foot. Don't forget the tightener.

Replace the four screws on the side.

I closed it back up, put the four external screws in, and tested it out. It's fully functional again. And yes, those are felt pads on the back of my flash. Don't ask.

Hi,

My Sigma flash works electronically but it can't rotate any more from the bottom to the top (left/right works). Do you know if there is a guide which can help me to repair it?

Regards.

What are the felt pads on the back of your flash for?
