the flash will only select TTL mode if it is attached to a camera that supports TTL and only then if the lens is a Non A lens.

The way the thing is programmed, is that it will operate in either TTL or P-TTL based upon the lens and body it is attached to, but at the maximum capability only, therefore
-if you put the flash on a PZ1 for example, it will be in TTL mode because the PZ-1 only supports TTL regardless of lens attached.
-If you put it on any thing later than an *istDS, it will be P-TTL only because none of the later bodies support TTL, but
-if you put it on an *istD with an "A" lens it will only select P-TTL, and if you use it with a non "A" lens it will only select TTL

On the istD and DS if you move the aperture ring away from "A" and use it to select aperture you will get ttl

K10 D does not support TTL that's why.

Only *istD and DS support TTL

Thats the same as a K mount lens, but yes, any lens moved out of A on an *istD or DS will default to TTL

I posted the same question a few months ago about my 645. I never got it to work, and I ended up buying one of the old 400T potato mashers.

I too am having problems with my flash. I can't seem to figure the whole thing out. I have a K20D, and have the flash set to automatic everything. I would think that it would just pull information fromt he camera and 'poof' get a perfect shot. NOT! The K20D is allot of work learning. I've had it for about a year now, and am still trying to figure the darn thing out. Give me a flash, and boy oh boy. More problems. It either over exposes or underexposes. Rarely do I get a shot that is 'perfect'. Don't know what I'm doing. Mostly in use with a DA 18-55 lens. Oh, one more thing....in the manual it does not list K20D under the P-TTL mode, I'm thinking the manual was made before the camera came out...any thoughts there? Thanks.

turn off auto everything

set the ISO to between 100 and 400 and put the camera in M mode with shutter set to 1.150th manually

the flash when turned on should default to TTL and you are set.

As for the manual the AF540 came out after the *istD but before the K10D depending on when you manual was printed, it won't show the camera in the flash manual but the camera manual will show the flash

You can trick the flash to display ttl but there is no ttl sensor in the K10D to measure and control the flash output during exposure.
