Which QR plate for 400mm lens?

I have a Photo Clam ball head on my tripod which takes Arca Swiss or "Dovetail" style plates. The one I have on my camera is pretty small. Do I need a longer plate to mount a 400mm lens on or can I get away with using the plate from the camera? I don't have the lens yet so I'm unsure of the length & weight, it's an old Busnell.

Here is what I have: PC-52-UP2 which was over $30 and I think I may have paid too much.

How long a plate you want will likely depend on where the centre of gravity of your lens and camera is in relation to the tripod mount on the lens. If the setup turns out to be too front or back heavy then you can use a longer plate to fine tune the balance. I'd suggest waiting until you have the lens and then you can see whether or not it will work with the parts you already have.
