I don't have much experience with higher end ball-heads but a dreadful experience with an el-cheapo one. All I know is that I'd much rather spend a bit less (usually) for a nice fluid head than use a ball-bearing head.

How appropriate. I was just talking about how my ball head (if you can call it that) will sometimes drift after I adjust it.
