Any way to do HSS with radio trigger?

OK, I know it's a long shot but is there currently a way to get high speed sync to work on a wireless radio trigger for Pentax. Pocket Wizards don't support Pentax and AFAIK Radio Poppers still don't.

I want to expand my Strobist capabilities and I really want to overpower daylight for portraits while still using large apertures. Am I dreaming? Is there a product or hack to get it to work? Are TTL extension cords and the on-board wireless mode my only option?

Unless some crafty vendor snuck one in under the wire, that's your only electronic option.

Neutral density filters are a possible option though depending on the situation. If you knock down the overall light with an ND you can bring the shutter down into the sync range. Then it's simply a matter of flash power.

Get a studio strobe...less expensive but more back pain :-)

In theory Radiopopper PX's should work on Pentax but I haven't found anyone locally who has them to try (and I don't have two Pentax p-TTL flashes to try this with). All they do is translate optical pulses to wireless and then back...
You'll need to spend 2x Pentax 540AF + 2x RadioPopper PX to get this to work though...

I'd second the ND filter approach, as it's cheaper and it eats less power than HSS (do the maths, you'll see...).

On the downside:
- focusing is harder (but on plain sunlight, not so much, it even eases the eye strain).
- image quality can be deteriorated a little bit...

Thanks guys, that's what I thought.

I'll try the ND filter when I get the chance.

kenyee, any reason you specified the AF 540's? as I was looking at the Sigma 530 super purely for the price factor.

Probably because the Sigmas, as good as they are, emulate P-TTL. If youre going to mod any part of a system youre usually better off with proprietary products.

If youre going to do straight PTTL wireless then either will work fine. I have a 540 and a Sigma 530 Super in my arsenal and both work great wirelessly as slaves or commanders.

Only because they're a known flash that works properly w/ HSS.
But yes, the Sigma should work as well since they also use optical pulses...
