I was looking at the HDMI video capture cards and got to wondering about simply capturing the output of the new cameras to a computer. The cards list 1080i and the specs for the HDMI port on the K-7 list 1080i output as well so it seems doable. This would get around the issue of limited capture time and maybe a couple of other issues.
Blackmagic Design | Intensity Pro HDMI and Analog | BINTSPROIntensity Pro features the latest HDMI technology for the highest quality capture and playback on PCI Express computers. Now you can edit using big-screen HDMI televisions and video projectors, or capture uncompressed quality directly from HDV cameras.
Intensity Pro features HDMI input for connecting cameras and digital set-top boxes for the highest quality uncompressed capture. Get the highest quality capture possible from HDV cameras by capturing from the camera’s image sensor and bypassing the HDV compression chip. Because edit software cannot play back to HDV cameras for monitoring, Intensity Pro is ideal for monitoring uncompressed HD, or HDV and even DV edits on big screen televisions and video projectors
You probably could set up a mini-ITX box to make it more portable.
Anyone tried this approach?
Thank you
