AF 160 and K20D

Hello,

I purchased a manual lens for my K20D and the seller included an older looking flash unit as well. Is the AF160 compatible with the K20d's hot shoe? What about manual mode?

Thanks,

Greg

You can use the AF160 with the K20d.

In manual mode, the flash will just fire at full power - you can't regulate it.

"In manual mode, the flash will just fire at full power - you can't regulate it." - I don't know where PBO got that idea from. I actually own a AF160FC.

The AF160 has power controls on a dial on the back that lets you choose 1/16 1/4 and 1/1 flash power - the great thing about the AF160 is that these power settings remain consistent Wether you are using the whole flash head or not. Though these power settings only work in full manual mode,if you want to use aperture priority with your ring flash you will have to use either an A, FA or D(F)A series lens

I think we're talking about different things. There used to be an old Pentax flash called AF160, not AF160FC - it was a "classic" old flash, not a macro ring flash, and did not have manual power control.

sometimes camera companies are as bad as printer manufacturers when it comes to naming hardware AF160FC or the AF160 I did a quick google search and there are manuals availible for these older units that might come in handy.

Surprisingly, there is an official manual on pentaximaging.com...

Anyway, I guess they "forgot" they had a flash with similar name, and just went with the guide number naming thing...
