Item for Sale
Pentax DA 16-85mm

Asking Price
400 $375 US

Item Location
Washington (United States)

Item Description
NEW LOWER PRICE!

END OF THE YEAR SPECIAL! I realize the ad below might be confusing to some. I had a hard time deciding between the two and finally settled on just keeping the original 18-135 kit lens. The 16-85 certainly has better IQ but it doesn't overlap as nicely with my 55-300 PLM, nor does it fit in my camera bag as neatly as the 18-135, the smaller of the two. Original ad remains below, for history sake, but the striked out parts are to indicate that this ad is for ONE lens only, the Pentax HD DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR. Thanks!

Yup, I have both. The extra 2mm on the wide end of the 16-85 is great, and I think this lens is just a bit sharper across the frame. The 18-135 is probably the lens I would want to have, if I could only choose one, as the long end is quite useful outdoors and it's a bit smaller and lighter than the 16-85. It's silly to keep both!

I can't decide! YOU help me choose which one I keep! The prospect is simple... I have two lenses for sale and as soon as one is sold, I'll list them both as sold and keep whichever is left. Both include both caps and their hood. I don't have a box for either but both have their own new Altura neoprene carry bag. Both lenses have removable lens cover tethers, to prevent loss. Both have new Breakthrough Photography UV filters... The 18-135 has an X1 ($17 on Amazon) and the 16-85 has an X2 ($44). Both are in excellent condition, if not mint. The hood on the 18-135 has a tiny scratch or two, for instance. The glass is excellent on both and I enjoy the results I get with either one.

I will pack which ever the lens VERY carefully; the way I would want to receive one. It will be shipped USPS with insurance and a tracking number. Shipping is included in the purchase price to anywhere in the lower 48 states. I will ship elsewhere too, but will have to get a quote for you. I provide feedback on all transactions and feedback in return is greatly appreciated.

Pentax DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Price: WAS US$250, now US$225 Includes NEW neoprene bag, cap tether, and BP X1 UV filter.

=OR=

Pentax HD DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR Price: WAS US$450, now US$375 Includes NEW neoprene bag, cap tether, and BP X2 UV filter.

EDIT: I have the opportunity to try a different platform for a while so I have my K-70, 18-135 WR, and 55-300 PLM now listed as well, separately, in an attempt to help fill the unexpected hole in my savings

Interested to see how this ends. The DA 16-85 is significantly better but people who own the 18-135 seem very happy with it.

I was first disappointed with the 18-135 and after I became better acquainted with it, and it's capabilities, I find it to be a pretty useful lens. The 16-85 is a great lens, no doubt about it, and the 2mm extra on the bottom end is actually much more than it sounds like, but is it worth giving up the 50mm on the top end? If I knew the answer to that question, only one of these would be for sale

For me, I opted for the 2mm on the wide end (16mm) and the generally better overall performance. I didn't have anything weather sealed at the wide end, and I wanted something as a general walk around and landscape lens.

I think pairing the 18-135 with the DA 15 would be a great combo. However, the 18-135 is weakest, I believe, at the long end. So you may still want a second lens at the long end.

$250 and $450. It's in the lens descriptions.

I have the 55-300 PLM WR too, which I'm very pleased with. The overlap of either of the shorter two lenses works well with it, as a two lens kit. I have a couple of primes as well and could almost go primes + PLM as an option as well.

LMAO!!! No, that's the deal I made with myself. If it doesn't fit in my camera bag, it gets sold. I run an Apecase 1200 (medium sized bag) and only have room for the 55-300 PLM, ONE of these two beauties and maybe two primes (one lens on the body, of course!) Besides, if it sits on a shelf it's much less likely that it will get used!

BUMP for heavy editing of the original ad AND a new, lower price! Only ONE lens is now for sale, my Pentax HD DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR. This is a smoking deal, with a new $44 UV filter, free shipping (in the lower 48 states) and other freebies. I recently paid more for this lens than I'm asking, BEFORE I bought all of that for it!

Won't last! This lens will go to ebay after the New Year. I just wanted to give members here a chance for it first!
